Here we read of missionaries who have returned to the local church.

Their work of ministry has been preaching, personal evangelism, planting churches, and more.

This was the church of their commissioning. The body God used to prepare them, and (no doubt) the one that laboured with them in prayer.

Many stories must have been told. Perhaps some that brought tears and sadness, others that prompted laughter and rejoicing.

Paul, Barnabas, and the church at Antioch were doing God’s will and giving us an example.

God calls some of His servants to travel far from home, facing hardship and harm to proclaim the truth.

Those behind will face difficulty of their own. They’ll have work of their own. But they will stand with those they send as well: financing, praying for, and cheering them on.

Both will look forward to the day when they can again share tales of opened doors and new audiences for the gospel.

Acts 14:27 “And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.”
