Joshua 3:7 “And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.”
To “magnify” in this passage means to advance or grow. Joshua’s status as a leader was about to take a big step forward.
Based on this passage and the previous two chapters, Joshua appears to have done very little the earn this magnification.
We do know he believed God, was committed to following God, and was doing the things God commanded in His word.
The people were following Him for this very reason. What’s the point? All of this had much more to do with God than it would ever have to do with Joshua.
God wanted the people of Israel to know that He was with Joshua. As He was with Moses in the past, He would be with Joshua in the future.
It was not the intelligence or the capability of the leader that would inspire the people. It was that leader’s proximity to the God that had unlimited intelligence and capability.
Leaders that rely on their own ability and wisdom should consider getting an upgrade. Begin relying on the One with all of the ability, and all of the wisdom.
