Job 40:3-5 “Then Job answered the LORD, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.”
When the Lord concludes His first response to Job at the beginning of this chapter, we can see it makes an impression.
Job is speaking and responding quite differently now.
He realizes his place in the world and determines to stop speaking.
Just before this response, God asks if the one who contends with the Almighty will instruct Him? And tells the one who reproves God to answer.
Job does. He simply recognizes he is a vile sinner and concludes he has nothing to say.
God is not done speaking. Next, He challenges Job from the whirlwind.
We’ll find Job’s realization about himself and this challenge from God will make all the difference in his future.
Both he and God have now been placed in their proper perspective in his mind.
