Genesis 26:7 “And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.”
It seems too easy an application simply to say that children learn behaviors – good or bad – from their parents. On the other hand, some applications are indeed this simple. Here we find Isaac afraid for his life. Instead of relying upon God for safety, he chooses to develop his own solution, following the same pattern as his father before him.
Whenever a man concentrates more on what may happen to him, than what is required of him, he finds himself in a vulnerable position. Both Abraham and Isaac share the common sin of not trusting God with their very lives. They feel they are better equipped than God to take care of their physical well-being, but they are both wrong.
We must recognize our flaws and take Biblical action to eliminate them, understanding that if we do not, they may be repeated.
