Proverbs 3:1-2 “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”
The Bible promises long life for those who are obedient to parents.
Those who are not forgetful of God’s commandments, but obey them from the heart.
Many aspects of the principle are simple.
Parents say don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t drive the car too fast, or don’t run with the wrong crowd. Avoiding all of these things will prolong life, yet in scripture this promise means more than just those practical things.
Here we see a young person’s obedience to Biblical principles and Godly wisdom will increase his days.
It just seems God blesses greatly those children who trust Him and their ordained authorities.
We ought not to make the mistake of believing this is just figurative. The general principle is: actual obedience to parents in and of itself results in actual long life on the earth.
This way of living also brings peace. One step of obedience leads to another, leading us to peaceful reassurance that God is faithful.
