Joshua 2:11 “And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.”
According to Rahab, even the fighting men of Jericho were terrified.
But their hearts did not “melt” because of Israel’s bravery and fury in battle. In fact, it was their lack of faith and fear that delayed their invasion by forty years.
It was the God of Israel and His legendary works that drained the courage of armies.
The military mind is pragmatic. It measures the skill of generals, the discipline of foot soldiers, the circumstances of battle, and above all: the odds.
If these factors are favorable, they march boldly into battle.
It is only a supernatural force that can turn these considerations upside down.
The God of heaven above and earth beneath was on the side of Israel, and it was clear they (and He) could not be stopped.
He was one to be feared, for sure, but Rahab found He was also one to be trusted.
