Nehemiah 1:6 “Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.”
After receiving word of the state of Jerusalem, Nehemiah turns to fasting and prayer.
With the walls of the city broken down, the people of Israel are vulnerable. The God of heaven is their only hope.
Nehemiah wept, and mourned, and called unto Him for help, remembering the words He spoke to Moses about the people being scattered and then being gathered again.
He knows God’s people have adopted the customs and the gods of the foreign nations in which they now dwell.
He pleads, on behalf of Israel, for mercy. He confesses a personal desire to fear God and to serve Him with his life.
Nehemiah is willing to go forth and to be an example to Israel. To urge them to trust God and restore Jerusalem.
