Psalm 55:1 “Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.”
Perhaps there have been times when we have felt the Lord was not hearing our prayers.
One of two things are likely at play in these instances. Either we have broken fellowship with Him because of our sin or we are relying on feeling rather than Biblical understanding.
In cases of broken fellowship, the obvious solution is confession and reconciliation.
The other instance is more complicated, because it requires us to separate ourselves from our emotional response.
A simple feeling that God’s ear is not within reach is neither logical nor Biblical.
We know that God does hear the prayers of His people and our feelings on the matter do not change things.
Perhaps a wise prayer in a time such as this is the one David utters here.
We may hear some doubt in his prayer for a hearing, but honesty is never a hindrance when addressing God.
He already knows when we waiver and already understands our often reliance upon feelings. Better to utter an uncertain prayer with a trembling voice than to forsake prayer and go it alone.
