Job 23:12 “Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”
As he struggles with his health and all the losses in his life at this time, Job mounts another defense of his character.
The accusations against him have been bold, continuous, and from his friends.
You can hear in his words from this chapter the weight they have laid upon him.
He explains himself time after time. And we know he is telling the truth because we have heard God speak on the topic in this book.
He has not departed from God’s commands. The truth is that he treasures God’s words more than his portion of food.
More than his own desires. More than his own needs. More than that which will sustains his life.
This is not something to quickly pass over. It deserves our consideration.
Job is likely facing trials far beyond those we have faced. And he maintains his integrity largely, it could be concluded, because of this kind of commitment.
I wonder how highly we esteem God’s words and where we would stand in trials such as these?
