Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
We may live our lives more wisely if we were reminded often how brief they are.
It’s as though we can see the second hand on the clock, ticking, ticking as the moments go by. How are we spending those moments? Are we mindful how few we have left?
Passages like this one change us because they remind us of something we already know.
Their impact comes when we realize that we have overlooked their wisdom and let too many rotations of the clock go by, with little thought of eternity.
The good news is that, if there is any time left, we can always begin living a wise, more Godly life today.
It will begin where this passage begins, at the point of remembering the length of our days.
Our main concern should be that we accomplish things that are eternal in their significance.
What good will worldly things do when our earthly end comes?
Let us keep our limited time in mind and make choices based upon God’s word. Behavior like this will constitute a life well spent.
