Remember the Lord

Nehemiah 4:14 “And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”

Jerusalem’s rebuild has angered its enemies in the region. They have organized an attack on the city.

Nehemiah has carefully prepared by placing families (armed with swords, spears, and bows) at the openings and low places in the wall.

When the assault appears imminent, Nehemiah expresses a reliance, not upon their planning, strategy, and arms, but upon God himself.

At times like these, we must remember the Lord.

While Nehemiah’s leadership is the subject of much study and admiration, it is God who provides wisdom and equipment for success.

There is no excuse for failure to prepare. But it is not our preparation that wins the day.

It is the God of heaven that gives strength and cunning to battle skillfully for our families, communities, and homes.
