Proverbs 31:30 “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”
When it says favour here, it’s talking about a woman who is regarded as graceful. It speaks of her outward appearance in the term beauty.
These are temporary characteristics. Age will eventually cause them to fade.
But a woman can have character traits, some of them listed in preceding verses, that won’t fade.
Here it says women will be praised for fearing the Lord.
When a woman fears the Lord she will develop attitudes and take actions that earn long-term, genuine respect and admiration.
Follow the outline of this chapter to discover what they are.
You’ll find they are developed through much difficulty and maintained with much diligence. But they are worthwhile.
Like anything of value and worthy of praise in life, they are the result of God’s grace and our joyful submission.
I wonder if we look for recognition based on outward appearance?
This passage makes it clear: fear the Lord instead. And if we gain any recognition as a result, we can give all glory to Him.
