Ecclesiastes 10:20 “Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.”
If we have a lot of bad things to say about people, we often say them in places where they won’t hear us.
This is sometimes because we lack the courage to confront that person face to face, or other times because they are a public figure, perhaps we feel we will never meet.
If there are accusations to launch, we may not be terribly concerned whether they are true are false. Because they are never going to hear us make them, right?
Well, imagine if everything we said about another person was eventually revealed to them.
Would this cause us to modify our daily speech?
The truth is – our words are being heard and our thoughts are being read – by God. Even if they are not ever heard by the offended party, they are displeasing to Him.
This verse also indicates, that secret words often have a way of being overheard and revealed.
