Nahum 2:10 “She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.”
The majority of chapters two and three in Nahum are about the judgements of God against Nineveh.
Their enemies have emptied the city, first of its inhabitants (many being killed), then of its walls and houses and of its treasures.
Nineveh is in ruins. The people left have lost all their courage. Their hearts melt with fear.
The picture of their fear is vivid in this text. Their knees knock together and all the light has left their faces.
This is the appearance of God’s adversaries, but only after the glee of their rebellion against Him is gone.
When they rejected him utterly, following their own evil ways, they arrogantly believed they were on the right path. But now they understand the truth.
It’s better, the Ninevites could testify, to embrace the truth before the calamities of judgement. God is merciful and longsuffering toward anyone who calls on Him.
