Nahum 1:3 “The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.”

We’re reading of the Lord’s judgements against Nineveh in this book.
He begins by giving them some information about God. Nahum says He is a jealous God, who punishes His enemies.
But He goes on to say the Lord is patient. He is powerful. He punishes the guilty and does not let them go free.
These are important details for a people that are far from God. About 100 years earlier Ninevites repented when they heard the preaching of Jonah, but their society is now worse than before.
They need to see the picture Nahum draws of God, who uses the whirlwinds and the storms to show His power. As men walk on the dusty ground, He walks upon the clouds.
He is over everything. He has seen every evil – in Nineveh and everywhere else. And while He has been patient, He will not acquit the guilty.
We find mercy in Him, but He also (in justice) hands out punishments.
