Thou mayest freely eat

Genesis 2:16 “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:”

Download Thou mayest freely eat

This is the way many of our commands begin.

God gives us so many wonderful things in the world to enjoy, just as He gave Adam and Eve.

Then He simply says we cannot partake of one thing or another for our own good, and we sometimes get the idea He is keeping something good from us.

The fact of the matter is that God does not keep anything good from us, He only shelters us from evil.

This was the case in the life of Adam. He was privileged to have everything good from God, but the one thing he was kept from only caused pain and death.

The next time we are tempted to snatch from God that which we think He is holding from us, we should remember the lessons learned by Adam.

Let us not focus on the tree that is forbidden. Instead remember all of the other wonderful fruit from (in Adam’s case) literally every other tree God created.

Partake of the fruits God has given us and leave the forbidden things alone.
