Joshua 2:24 “And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us. “
How was it that the Lord had delivered the land to Israel?
These spies were certain they could take Jericho, but why?
The only real evidence cited here was the fear of the people, but behind that fear were two important facts.
The first was God’s clear promise. He made it to Abraham in Genesis 12, reminded Moses about it in Exodus 3, and emphasized it again just one chapter before in Joshua 1.
Every word of that promise would be kept because of God’s character. That’s the second important fact.
The people of the land knew that Israel’s God kept his promises, His mighty acts on their behalf were well known. This was the basis for their terror.
God makes promises and keeps them. He is truly faithful, truly holy, the one true God.
The spies were right. The land was theirs, and Joshua knew it, because he knew God and he knew what God said.
Joshua 2:24 “And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us. “
