Joshua 1:16 “And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.”
The people of Israel are expressing a willingness and solemn commitment to follow.
We hear a lot about leadership today – and rightly so. Most of us have some leadership responsibility or role in our lives.
It is important that we know how to lead, and Joshua’s life (as outlined in this book) can teach us much in this area.
But I wonder, if Bible-believing people should not also focus heavily on learning to be a better follower?
There are no reservations in this commitment to follow. The people will do anything they are told, and go anywhere they are commanded to go.
All of this following comes with the understanding that the leader, Joshua, is following God with the same level of seriousness. (See the next verse in the passage.)
If a leader is following God with absolute devotion, a people can follow with no reservation.
Are we following God and the leaders He has given us with this kind of commitment? Or is there something we will not do and some place we will not go?
