Isaiah 11:10 “And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.”
This prophecy of “a root of Jesse” would be the Messiah. One who would be a banner, a standard for the people – not just of Israel, but even for those outside Israel – the Gentiles.
He would be One to which all would look in this day.
The preceding verses tell us the Spirit of the Lord would rest upon Him, He would have wisdom and understanding, He would speak and judge with authority, and would have power to bring peace.
This Messiah’s identity has been revealed to us – Jesus, the Christ.
From the line of Jesse, descendant of his son King David. One with all of the attributes listed, born of a virgin, walking in righteousness and obedience (without fail), and One who would rest in glory forever.
Thankfully, One who would also bring us eternal rest.
God planned in advance to send this banner, this Savior. But we must look to Him.
