John 15:4 “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
Jesus is the true vine. That’s the focus of this section of scripture.
His father is the One dressing the vine.
This is a vivid picture for a well-established, Biblical principal.
Our health and productivity as a Christian is dependent upon our constant abiding in Him and on our willingness to accept pruning when needed.
There is no such thing as health and vibrance and fruit-bearing spiritually without a close and connected relationship with Jesus.
A branch disconnected will appear healthy for a while, but it is only a matter of time.
There are practical things that abiding means to a believer’s life. Surrendering our will to Him. Reading, understanding, and obeying His word. Staying close to Him in prayer. Serving His church.
These are a start. Our hearts and our motives must be right too.
We cannot serve Him by serving ourselves. He will provide growth – if we abide.
