Job 1:10 “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.”
Satan is speaking to God in this passage. They are talking about Job.
God calls Job His servant and says he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and turns away from evil.
Satan doesn’t dispute this, rather he says Job is only this way because God has provided Him protection and blessing.
At this point, Job was the greatest of all the men of the east. And this meant, Satan claimed, he had no reason to serve God.
What’s more, Satan declared that if God removed His hand of blessing, allowing all that he had to be lost, Job would curse God.
God allowed Satan to take away Job’s earthly blessings, but did not allow him (at this point) to touch his body.
We get a glimpse into another world in this passage. It reminds us that blessings come as a result of God’s direct intervention.
And that nothing can happen to us that the Lord doesn’t allow.
