John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
The world is a tough place, and it was about to get tougher for Jesus’ disciples.
Not only would He go to the cross and be crucified, but even after His resurrection they would face nearly constant persecution.
His words in this chapter were intended to bring them peace. Scripture calls Him the Prince of Peace for a reason.
He grants us peace with God, but also brings to our hearts the peace of God. Neither of these can be obtained anywhere else. He is our peace.
All men have tribulation in the world, particularly those who live in a Godly way. But we can have good cheer. Jesus is our victory.
The world will not defeat those who trust Him, because He is in us, and it could not, does not, will not overcome Him.
Death has no sting and the grave has no victory for those who have faith in Christ. Those who follow the Overcomer.
