John 8:56-58 “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”
Abraham looked forward to the day when, from his linneage, “all the nations of the earth” would be blessed.
He believed God when this promise came to him, even when (from a human perspective) it looked so unlikely.
While he received not, Hebrews 11 says, the Messianic promises while he lived, he and others who had faith could see them “afar off.”
But before any of this happened, in eternity past, Jesus was there. The Word was with God and the Word was God.
He was Abraham’s Creator and his Lord. He had no beginning and He has no end.
The self-existent One. And the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham – and the world.
