Colossians 1:10 “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;”
Paul’s concern for the Colossians a verse earlier is that they “might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.”
If these believers were to understand God’s will, having wisdom, the things listed in this verse would be the result.
Walking worthy of Him requires that we have a clear understanding of who He is – remaining committed to doing things that reflect that understanding.
The verse appears to be progressive. We are pleasing Him in our walk, thus being fruitful, and therefore increasing in knowledge.
It seems that one knowledge – that is of His will, leads to a commitment – walking in a worthy, pleasing way, leads to character traits – fruit, which lead to another knowledge – an increasing knowledge of Him.
What does all of this mean?
The Christian life is a moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day walk with Christ.
Each obedient step leads to an understanding of the next step to be obeyed.
We must keep walking, providing of course, that we are indeed walking with Him.
