Luke 6:42 “Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.”
This is a vivid picture of a common problem.
We often show too much enthusiasm for addressing the sins of others, while showing only minor interest in addressing our own.
When we have overlooked and ignored sin in our own lives, we cannot see properly to correct others. Our vision is obscured and limited.
Instead of providing help, we reveal hypocrisy and make things worse.
We ought to spend a majority of our time dealing with personal problems, before they get to be the size of a beam.
This will allow for clear vision – and when it is necessary – with humility and perspective, we can aid others in spiritual growth.
