Luke 1:15-16 “For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.”
At the announcement of John’s birth, we hear a little about him, and a lot about what God will use him to do.
John the Baptist, according to the next verse, was “to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
God intervened, before the coming of the Messiah, to provide a messenger that would point many in Israel to Him. And though we know that many also rejected Him, God was gracious.
This servant was prepared and sent to perform a task that revealed God’s love for His people. He wanted them to hear about and come to know Jesus.
After Jesus died, was buried, and rose again, He gave command that we should use our lives to point to Him.
Are we living according to the plan He has for us?
