Luke 3:16 “John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:”
As John went about baptizing, he boldly proclaimed the Messiah. The One who would baptize with the Holy Ghost and provide cleansing for sin.
While John’s reputation increased, he was focused on increasing awareness of the coming Savior. He de-emphasized himself and pointed directly to Jesus.
All ministers of Christ should believe and speak in this way. We must have a clear understanding of the role we play in the Great Commission.
We are reflectors of the light of Christ; witnesses of His saving power; preachers of His good news.
Any ministry we accomplish will not be a result of our worthiness, but of His. We will do some planting and watering, but He will give the increase.
John had the great privilege of ministering in this way here. We ought to take his example.
