Matthew 3:16-17 “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
This baptism was a moment of obedience for Jesus, and it was a moment of affirmation for those watching – and for us.
The voice from heaven confirmed what John had been preaching. This was God’s beloved son. The Savior sent to be the sacrifice for our sins.
He was baptized to “fulfill all righteousness.” This was part of His full obedience to the Father. Part of His sinless life on earth.
The Father was well pleased with Him, as He carried out the mission of redeeming humankind.
Here we find one of the many moments recorded about Jesus that set Him apart. That remind us of His humanity and His deity.
We have a Savior that is far above us, but also our friend, and our example.
