Joshua 24:5 “I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.”
The history of Israel is a history of God at work in the lives of His people.
We see an outline of His intervention in this verse.
First, He prepares individual leaders, which He calls and sends into His service. People like Moses and Aaron.
These are not men of special talent. They are men with a special assignment from God.
Second, He creates the circumstances within which His plan can be carried out.
The plagues in Egypt revealed God’s particular interest in Israel and proved the impotence of Pharaoh.
Third, He makes the unlikely or seemingly impossible, a reality.
Consider how improbable it is for an entire nation of slaves to acheive freedom in the absence of armed insurrection.
God selected people, set plans in motion, arranged events, eliminated obstacles, and kept promises.
This was a key reminder for Israel. Their God is like no other, holy and apart from the world, yet fully active within it, showing His wondrous power on their behalf.
