I John 1:8-9 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Coming to grips with sin is one of the key things every believer in Christ must do.
We place our faith in Jesus because we know that we are sinners, that we can’t save ourselves, and that only Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection can redeem us.
As we begin following Him, remaining in this sinful world and in these sinful bodies of flesh, we sometimes return to sin. We know we are free from any bondage to sin and don’t want to return, but we often do.
The person that declares they have no sin is deceiving themselves.
We must internalize the truth and come in confession. Doing so can be difficult, but we know God is faithful, He forgives and cleanses, no matter what we have done.
Understanding these things should bring hope and comfort to the lost considering Christ as Savior or the saved who have shamefully returned to sin.
