Proverbs 4:1-2 “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.”
Download Instruction of a father
This should be a profitable passage for for those of us who have children.
It puts into words a hearts-desire we may have as we raise them: that they learn correct Bible doctrine.
Some have worked much of their lives at overcoming a bias toward false teaching, imparted to them by their parents.
These wrong doctrines are passed from generation to generation and are rarely corrected, unless a young person is strictly committed to scriptural accuracy and makes a habit of confirming that which they are taught.
As we teach anyone, we must deal with scripture honestly, without worldly bias, and with the help of the Holy Spirit.
These are some of the ingredients that lead to proper scriptural understanding.
We must be humble enough to keep learning, keep paying attention, and keep leaning on His knowledge and not our own.
First of all, we commit to our responsibility to understand, then we commit to our responsibility to teaching that which we have understood.
