John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Those who follow Jesus walk in light. Our path is illuminated by Him.
This is a common picture in scripture that has real-world meaning for any normal day.
He gives understanding about the issues we’ll face. He provides us means of coping with difficulty.
He gives us a certain, final destination – a forever-home in heaven.
And along the way, if we lack wisdom, we can ask Him. He generously provides.
The alternative path is darkness.
Despite what we’d like to believe, we lack understanding. We find insufficient or unsustainable ways of coping.
Our final destination is certain – destruction, but we tell ourselves we’ve got “a reasonable shot” at “something better.”
On the dark path we develop our own wisdom, which is not wisdom at all.
Which path have we chosen? Faith and commitment to Jesus alone – light? Or the alternative?
