Luke 2:30-32 “For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”
Simeon had been waiting for the consolation of Israel – the coming of the Messiah – and now he held him in his arms as he blessed God.
While this was a great day for this just and devout man, it was also a great day for the entire world. And this declaration outlines the reason.
Jesus, God made flesh, would live a sinless life, then die in our place and for our sins. Rising from the dead three days later and providing the way of salvation for mankind.
The beautiful wording of this text reminds us that His sacrifice was for all – Jew and Gentile. But we must receive Him by faith.
Simeon saw the Savior with his own eyes. What an exciting day!
He is revealed to us in scripture. The same scripture that tells believers that one day, we too will see Him face to face.
