John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Jesus is describing himself as the good shepherd in this passage.
He is the leader and protector of the sheep.
While the dangers of the world remain for the believer, we have a keeper we can trust.
The world, the flesh, and the devil would harm and eventually destroy us, but He is the life-giver.
He not only provides eternal life and a home in heaven. He also gives abundant life.
This means superabundant in quantity or superior in quality.
The life He gives is both. It is everlasting – a quantity of days that cannot be numbered. And fulfilling – the life we were meant to lead.
Living in relationship with Christ, in obedient discipleship, is living above and beyond that which we deserve. All saints can attest, there is nothing greater. And it goes on for eternity.
How wonderful to know that this is why He came. Giving up His life, to grant us new life in Him!
