John 19:10-11 “Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.”
Pilate just asked Jesus in the previous verse “whence art thou?” or “where are you from?” And Jesus gave him no answer.
Despite what men of any level of authority may come to believe, power is not theirs to independently wield. They only have authority God grants and can only use it as He allows.

Jesus was standing willingly before Pilate. And all that happened from this point forward was allowed by God.
No one took Jesus’ life, He laid it down of Himself. He had power to lay it down. And to take it up again.
