John 20:19 “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.”
John had already come to believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. And Mary had seen Him.
This chapter begins to outline the many infallible proofs of His resurrection.
These witnesses would go on to tell others of the good news of salvation, which was only in this living Savior.
His greeting here of “peace be unto you” had new meaning now that He was alive again. All who would trust in this Savior, seen by so many after his resurrection, could have eternal peace – a peace no circumstance could change.
This peace came as a result of His death in our place, His burial, and this resurrection.
The hope of the gospel is confirmed in it. This is why peace can be ours and can come to all who believe!
