II Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
This is an important charge to Timothy and anyone else in ministry for Christ.
Jesus commissioned all of His disciples, just before He departed, to preach the word.
He said we were to take His gospel to every creature. And told us we would be His ministers to the ends of the earth.
Paul provides some additional thoughts.
He says we should be ready to do what is needed at all times. To admonish believers who need it. Or to rebuke them.
Paul says we should come alongside brothers and sisters, with forbearance, but also with sound teaching.
Our preaching – declaring after the manner of a herald – should be to everyone, in a variety of ways, consistently.
If we are obedient disciples, this will be a key part of our lives.
It means being prepared, ready to speak, ready to influence with God’s word. And our character should match our preaching.
The Christian who goes forth understanding their commission will be successful, in glorifying Christ, and in reaching others with wisdom and the message of hope and salvation.
