Matthew 7:3 “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”
We often notice the small specks and splinters in the eyes of those around us.
It might be surprising that we can even see them, peering around the beams in our own eyes.
Jesus is talking about people who recognize and correct the small errors and character flaws of friends. Some do this while totally overlooking their own, major character flaws.
Brothers and sisters need help in their discipleship. But not from people who are failing in discipleship themselves.
Our own relationship with Christ must be considered first. Are we committed, fully surrendered, and obedient?
If the answer is no, our main concern should be repentance and restoration.
When our vision has been sufficiently cleared by God, we may have the opportunity to assist someone else. But not until then.
Hypocrisy is a legitimate concern when relating to brothers and sisters in Christ. We must carefully approach every interaction, maintaining a clear conscience , speaking with humility and grace.
