Psalm 40:8 “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”
How many times have we finally submitted to doing God’s will, but remained unhappy about it?
If we could only grasp how advantageous doing His will really is for us, we would have no difficulty finding delight in obedience.
This is part of the great struggle of Christianity. We understand with our intellect that God wants what is best for us, but our flesh leads us only toward disobedience.
The desire of a Christian should always be to please God, but our sin nature creates opposition that is all too real every day.
Let us embrace the truth that God’s will is best and find delight in doing exactly what God commands, at the time He commands it.
If His precepts find a welcoming place in our hearts, we will no doubt find joy and fulfillment in serving Him completely.
It is when we resist from the heart, serving only out of duty or habit or guilt that we find His will a burden.
The more we know Him, His faithfulness and love, the more we will genuinely want to serve and follow – from the heart.
