White as snow

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Isaiah speaks to to the Hebrew people in preceding verses, calling them a “sinful nation,” people that have “forsaken the Lord.” He says they have provoked God to anger.

While they continued the religious rituals of their past, their hearts (at this time) were far from God. And their actions were wrong.

God tells them, through Isaiah, that He doesn’t want sacrifices or burnt offerings or feast days held for Him. At least He doesn’t want them from those who are far from Him and continuing in sin.

But He invites Israel to come to Him for cleansing from evil.

At that moment, their sins were a stain, red like crimson. But God could cleanse His people and make them whole.

If that were to take place, those things done for Him would have a whole new meaning.

This is the same offer we have today. Come to Christ in faith and be cleansed.
