Jesus certainly knew what was going to happen. He has been talking about it for a few chapters.

This is the point where a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, led by Judas, arrive to take Him away.

Among His list of “I Am” statements from this book, clearly declaring His deity, comes this one. It sends those that would take Him backward and to the ground – just another indicator of the unlimited power He kept under control.

As Isaiah says, “he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter.” He willingly endures all that comes next – knowing everything that will happen and being capable, in an instant, of preventing it. He does not.

He does the Father’s will and makes for us a way of salvation.
