Proverbs 3:9-10 “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
This is a terrific way to express the giving principle.
When we give our firstfruits to God, we are honouring Him with our substance.
There is no doubt, He has been good to me, providing food, clothing, a warm place to sleep, and so many other great things.
We can do no less than offer this “substance” back to Him.
This is a core principle. Our love for God is shown by our willingness to freely release all He has given to us.
Remembering also that they are already His and not ours to keep in the first place.
We do this not for the purpose of being blessed, but for the purpose of honouring Him.
Those who do anything for this purpose can expect the associated blessings.
I wonder how much of our substance belongs to God today? Have we freely released everything to His control?
If we are holding something back, we are failing in our faith.
