Philippians 3:8 “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,”
In the previous few verses, Paul was able to list many of the things that meant so much to him before he met Christ.
Whether it was his heritage, or the traditions he had kept, or what he had learned, or his accomplishments. He was putting them all in perspective.
God uses our story, He uses our background, what we have seen, and what we know. But those things are never primary.
Paul was able, and we should be able, to count all the things that make up who we are loss – for Christ!
No matter what our identity used to be, in Christ we are changed. In Him we have new life, are new creatures, and have a new focus.
Those things in our past (good or bad) may be tool for the future, but He will be the One using them (or not using them), based on His will.
To us, all that should count is Jesus.
