Galatians 4:16 “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?”
Paul had a hard message to deliver in this book.
He confronted the Galatians on their acceptance of “another gospel.” It emphasized works and minimized faith, which meant it was “not another” gospel – just a lie.
It is difficult to hear that we are accepting a lie. We want to resist, defend ourselves, and make an enemy of the one revealing the truth.
The person doing the confronting faces no less of a challenge. They are required do it with love, but no lack of courage, clarity, or boldness.
There is a way for every party involved to react correctly, and that is to renew our commitment to telling and believing the truth, no matter how difficult it may be.
We can be reluctant to face issues head-on, whether we are telling or hearing the truth, because we fear division.
Paul did not share our sense of fear.
We ought to confront wrong, but do it with warning; 1) be absolutely certain we are Biblically accurate, and 2) do it in full submission to the Holy Spirit.
Also, we must accept truth, never making an enemy of the one proclaiming it.
