John 12:10-11 “But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.”
The chief priests and Pharisees, just a few verses earlier, are plotting to kill Jesus.
Because of what He is doing, many are believing on Him.
One of the things He has done is raise Lazarus from the dead. And the story of Lazarus is making an impact.
People are coming to see, rightly, that if this Teacher can raise a man from the dead physically, He may also raise men from the dead spiritually.
Lazarus’ walking about very much alive, after the people knew He was dead, served as a vivid illustration.
And so they sought to kill Lazarus too.
Those with a testimony. Those with a story. Those with a ministry, will always be targets for persecution.
He was a walking, talking reflection of God’s glory and proof of Jesus’ power. They sought to eliminate Him to prevent others from seeing the truth.
