Luke 6:35 “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”

This is just one of many instances in the New Testament, where we will be called to a higher standard.
We are called to think and act in certain ways, because God thinks and acts in that way. He is our model. We are to live as His children.
The counter-cultural messages in this passage are not unlike commands we find elsewhere.
Our first reaction will never be to love our enemies. Both our flesh and the world will urge the opposite, but we must submit to God and fight our first reaction, obeying Him.
It is difficult to be kind to the unthankful and evil. But He provides power – and we must do as He would do.
If we are to be called children of the Highest, we will have to live as children of the Highest. This will mean looking to God’s example and following accordingly.
Luke 6:35 “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”
