Thy sins are forgiven

Luke 5:20-21 “And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?”

This man, brought to Jesus for healing, on his bed, would soon hear rise up and walk. And he would.

But the question in the minds of the scribes and Pharisees was how does this Jesus believe he has the right to forgive sins?

It was true that only God can forgive sins. Thankfully, that’s exactly who this man met on that day.

Emmanuel, God with us. The word, who was made flesh and dwelt among us.

It seems, like many other times before, this question came from hearts of jealousy and envy, accusing falsely, and reacting with cruelty and mocking.

It mattered not, for Jesus was proving day by day His deity, as well as fulfilling prophecy and bringing with Him the joy of salvation.

His forgivess would extend much further yet – even to the ends of the earth.
