I John 3:16 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
We know what real love looks like, because God showed it to us.
When Jesus laid down His life for sinners, we saw love in action.
He is our example for loving others.
This might mean devoting ourselves to evangelism and discipleship in another culture around the globe.
It might mean continuing to preach when the authorities, who have the power to persecute us, demand we stop.
It could mean giving money, time, and diligent effort to make someone else’s life better.
For some, it will mean all three and perhaps a good deal more.
We show love for God, for the unsaved, and for our brothers and sisters in Christ when we do these things.
The church has a mission to carry out. When we give our lives to advance that mission, we are reflecting Christ’s love.
Is He truly our example? Are we prepared to love like He loved. And are we committed to sacrifice our very lives for His service and the service of the brethren?
