Luke 15:4-5 “What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.”
This question comes after the Pharisees and scribes are recorded as murmuring about Jesus receiving and eating with sinners.
The parables following are about searching for – and finding – that which has been lost.
It only makes sense that the shepherd would search for the lost sheep, then rejoice when he is found. Any of us would search for something valuable to us that has been lost.
Before coming to faith in Christ, we are the lost sheep in need of finding.
Jesus received sinners for this reason. It is why we refer to those without Christ as lost.
And we must know that when a sinner repents, as when a sheep is found, there is much rejoicing in heaven.
I wonder if we are searching for the lost or just remaining with the ninety and nine?
