John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
If there were any question about our path to everlasting life, this sentence should close the matter.
John the Baptist was taking every opportunity to point men to Jesus – the Son of God. The One who had been given “all things” by the Father.
While John was merely the friend of the bridgroom (as he explains a few verses earlier), Jesus was the bridgroom indeed. And John was filled with joy at hearing His voice.
Now…his job was to persuade men to believe. To make plain that this Jesus was the One who had been promised.
This One, sent from heaven, was the only Savior of the world. On a mission to complete the work that would secure our redemption, so we could be His bride.
Those who believe are promised live everlasting, but those who believe not, only wrath.
There will be no exceptions. What God has done is clear and what He says is true.
Jesus is the only name by which we must be saved. Fully trust Him alone, now.
